Andreas Karakatsanis was born in Athens in 1980.He took his first guitar lessons from Aliki Dahi and graduated in 2000 from the class of Evangelos Boudounis at the National Conservatory of Athens with Honours receiving top marks for performance. Later on, he participated in master-classes and had lessons with Oscar Ghiglia, David Russell, Roland Dyens, Hubert Kappell, Evangelos Assimakopoulos, Liza Zoe and Elena Papandreou. In the year 2005 Andreas Karakatsanis was admitted in the class of Maestro Oscar Ghiglia in the Academia Chigiana in Siena, where he was awarded a scholarship and the “Diploma di Merito” and he was chosen by the Maestro to participate in the final concert of the class. Andreas Karakatsanis has been studying under Maestro Oscar Ghiglia ever since. He has played recitals and concerts throughout Greece both as a soloist and as a chamber musician. He has appeared with the Strings Orchestra of Patras under the conductors Saulius Sondeckis and Alexis Soriano and he is the leading guitar in the “Guitarists” Ensemble under the guidance of Evangelos Boudounis with which he has appeared in major festivals and concert halls in Greece, Cyprus and the USA. Andreas Karakatsanis has won first prize in the Patras 5th National Guitar Competition in 2001, first prize in the “Halkida 2002” National Guitar Competition and the first prize in the National Guitar Competition of the Ministry of Education in 1998. He has also worked with Greek composers Nikos Mamangakis, Evangelos Boudounis, Kostas Grigoreas, Savvas Zannas and Nikolas Tzoortzis and has premiered and recorded some of their works. In addition, Andreas Karakatsanis has studied Medicine in the Medical School of the National & Kapodistrian University of Athens from which he graduated in 2005. Currently, he is an intern specializing in Surgery and he also deals with problems and disorders that are common among musicians.
