Pavlos Kanellakis

Pavlos kanellakis was born in 1978 in Athens, Greece. He studied classical guitar with Helena Papandreou at Philippos Nakas Conservatory and he obtained his diploma in 1998.
The years 1995 and 1996 he gained full scholarship from Philippos Nakas Conservatory for studying there.
The summer of 1997 he attended Oscar Ghiglia’s guitar master classes and three years later he became his student at the Music Academy in Basel (Switzerland) where he got the “Solisten Diplom” which is the highest Academy’s grade. His studies there were covered with three years scholarship from A.Onassis foundation.
In 2001 he met the violinist Gidon Kremer and a few months later he participated at his String Festival(Internationales Kammermusikfest) “Lockenhaus”, where he interpretated music for solo guitar and chamber music as well. At the particular festival he got laudatory comments from the conductor Sir Simon Rattle about his playing.
He is a prize winner of national and international guitar competitions. Recently, at the Gargnano International guitar competition, he got the second prize and the special prize “Gianluigi Fia” for the best interpetation on music by J.S. Bach.
The last ten years he is in collaboration with the Greek contemporary composer Nikos Mamangakis with whom he has recorded several CDs with music for solo guitar and music for guitar and voice.
In 2004 he was invited by the European Classical Radio (E.B.U) in order to make a solo recording, which is to be published.
He had had master classes with O. Ghiglia, M.Barueco, R. Dyens, H. Kappel, C. Marchione, E. Asimakopoulos - L. Zoi, E. Boudounis, A. Myrat.
He has given concerts in Greece, Switzerland, Germany, Latvia, Esthonia, Austria
