The International Guitar Festival in Patras, which is one of the most important events in the field of classical guitar, celebrates 33 years this year since its first organization. Under normal circumstances, this would be the 35th Festival in Patras, if we added the two years (2020 & 2021) that did not take place due to the coronavirus, meaning a guitar institution in the same city, certainly one of the longest-running in the world.
This year's guests of the Festival are the Frenchman Gabriel Bianco and the Belgian Johan Fostier, who are rightly considered to be two of the leading soloists of their generation. They will give recitals, teach in Master Classes and be on the jury of Monday's competitions. The two famous guitarists have received countless distinctions and awards (including the GFA), multiple appearances at festivals, and participation as soloists with symphony orchestras.
This year's concert program also includes recitals by Vasiliki Kydoniati, Konstantina Nikolakopoulou and Ioanna Lazari, three distinguished young soloists from Patras, graduates of the 'Philharmonic Society of the Patras Conservatory', as well as the virtuoso Apostolos Karpontinis, who will perform works by Isaac Albéniz.
Finally, two interesting lectures will be held over the weekend by the well-known Tsampika Karakiza, Computer Engineer, Doctor of Communication, Professor - Consultant of the Greek Language and Literature Department, seconded to the University of Athens, on the topic "Artificial Intelligence and Creativity: a relationship under investigation", and the acclaimed guitarist, composer and music educator Kostas Grigoreas on the topic “Artificial Intelligence and Music: Will robots finally play guitar?”
A decades-old institution, the International Guitar Festival in Patras gives students of all ages the opportunity to take part in this celebration of classical guitar, which includes lessons, concerts, master classes, lectures, competitions, and is a source of information, encouragement, training, and reflection for all participants.
The 33rd International Guitar Festival of Patras warmly thanks the ‘Patras Conservatory Philharmonic Society’ for its hospitality, Nicholas Ioannou and the Music House 'Panasmusic' for their generous contribution to the guitar competitions and finally all those who support this institution.
